2026 Descorchados Results for Fabre Montmayou

The Descorchados Guide is today one of the most relevant wine publications in South America. It’s edited by the most renowned Chilean wine writer Patricio Tapia, who first published Descorchados in 1999 in Chile with the intention of portraying the energy of change that was brewing in the neighbouring country, in terms of new grape varieties, new areas and new interpretations. Currently, the wine tasting has expanded its horizons to cover the most important wines from Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, the four key wine producing countries in South America.

We are proud to share our 2026 results along with the full tastings notes for our wines.

Fabre Montmayou Grand Vin 2023                                            97 points       MEJOR VISTALBA

The first version of this wine was released in 1993, and since then it has become a classic in the modern era of Argentine wine and a Descorchados favorite. It comes from vineyards planted in 1908 next to the Vistalba winery, on the north bank of the Mendoza River, and this year’s blend is 85% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the remainder Merlot. The entire wine is aged in barrels for a year and a half, resulting in a mature, succulent red wine, full of herbal and floral nuances, as well as sweet spices, and above all, a firm tannic structure that allows the succulent flavors to linger to the finish, making this not only a broad, horizontal wine, but also one with a very long finish.

Fabre Montmayou Reserva Malbec 2024                                   94 points       REVELACION

For this Reserva Malbec, Fabre selects grapes from 40-year-old vines planted next to the Vistalba winery, in the alluvial and stony soil on the Mendoza river’s northern bank. Following frequent pump-overs (three times a day) and a year of aging, with 60% of the volume in barrels (all used oak) and the remainder in concrete tanks, the wine offers a succulent and mature expression of the variety, enveloping the palate. Make no mistake, it is not an overwhelming wine; it has acidity and tannins with just enough energy—perhaps ‘light’ is the right word—to illuminate the dark, dense fruit. It offers tremendous value for money.

Fabre Montmayou Gran Reserva Malbec 2023                         93 points

The 2023 harvest was warm throughout Mendoza, and that’s evident in this red wine with its black fruit notes, sweet spices, and hints of herbs. The structure is firm and intense, full of assertive tannins that need some bottle aging to soften. It’s certainly a wine meant for aging, but also one of those reds that would pair beautifully with spiced meats in stews or a shank of lamb, for example.

Fabre Montmayou Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2023  92 points

From the stony soil of Perdriel, in Luján de Cuyo, this Cabernet Sauvignon offers a pronounced presence of leather and spice notes. It is a wine of great maturity, with imposing tannins that demand time in the bottle or a grilled steak. It comes from 50-year-old  vines and is aged for one year in barrels.

Fabre Montmayou Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2024            90 points

The sun and warmth of Perdriel typically produce this kind of gentle and succulent Cabernet Sauvignon. Here you’ll find ripe red and sweet black fruits, spicy notes, and a touch of herbs, in a body that feels sweet, smooth, and approachable.
